Plan B

What will I do if I don't get into calarts OR ringling? Well, I've narrowed it down to the following:

1. Go somewhere else and stay there.
I have either CCA, SCAD, RMCAD, AAU, or Full Sail. They are all good schools and I'm sure I could do well at any of them.

2. Do something else for a year and then apply again.
A. Travel- but I will be SO FREAKING BROKE by the end of it
B. Work- earn some money for calarts
C. Go to CU or Front Range- I could get some general ed credits out of the way for less.

The only thing about this is that I have worked SO HARD. I don't just want to...not go to my top school. Any of these would include moving out of course. No way am I staying home.

3. Go to another art school for a year and then apply again the next year
But the thing is, art school is expensive. And you can't transfer into calarts. So then I'm paying for 5 years of expensive college

4. Pursue something else
Like what?? I was going to do advertising before I decided on animation. Maybe I could go into biology, you know, be a doctor, nurse, researcher like my dad. I mean it's a pretty big field. I could even go into medical illustration...not that I know what that is. I could possibly be a writer, too.

I think what most people do is 2. C. I guess that makes sense. But I would just be so embarassed to do that. And what if I don't get in again? I can't keep putting off my dreams forever...

ASLD

So I went to asld today. I have to say the worst part is the drive. It took me an hour and twenty minutes to get down there, and boy do I hate driving on the interstate. Sooo stressful. Bleh. Fortunately it only took me 40 minutes to get back. But considering I was only there for 2.5 hours...ouch. Half of it's driving.
Anyways, it was a really cool, big, old building and the floor creaked with every step. I was right. I was the youngest person there by at least 10 years and it was obvious in my art. Most of them were painting. One guy even had a laptop and a tablet with him and was drawing on that. I never even thought of that before. Drawing from life on your computer...
Anyway no one really talked to me, but everyone seemed to know each other. There were a couple elderly people, some middle aged people, and then two people who looked to be about in their 20s...Some of their stuff was really cool. I intend on learning from watching them in the back.
Drawing a nude was really cool and I finally got to ease my frustration by being able to drawing boobs as they naturally hang. Plus, the model had some meat on her bones, which was really nice too, because it moved around and helped display force and weight. So, let me show you what I did.
I started out pretty normal. I tried a few gestures to begin with, just so I got it right, and then sketched it out in pencil. And then I just used my chalk to shade and such. The gesture got so compressed in this, I am a little disappointed, because I tried to exagerrate A LOT. As you can see in this picture, my hands and faces suck a lot. I don't know what it is, I just can't get it right.

After being normal for an hour, I kind of finished, so I decided to try drawing with my right hand. These are the results. Kinda different, kinda similar. It's definitely looser, but the head died. And I cheated on that part too! The arm on the left got kind weird too. It was too dark so I put in some white and yea. The hands are a pitiful mess, along with the face, and the lopsided boobs, but all in all pretty good for my right hand.

After both of of those I decided my faces SUCK and so I just tried working on that...and failed. I don't understand eyes. AT ALL. I was also pretty far away so it wasn't easy to see what was going on up there

After that, I just left with half an hour to go. I figured I'd had enough of it for now.

I am so frustrated. I just don't understand how on earth I can change my lines. I mean, it's a pretty simple concept, right? You just put lines down on paper in a particular pattern. So why is it so hard to branch out of this and do something differently??
Today I plan on going to the art students league of denver for a figure drawing session. I am a little nervous for a number of reasons.
-First off, I haven't actually been to a nude session. Usually you have to be 18, but I got a permission form signed for this. The closest I got to nude was when a sub came in wearing a thong. Me and my friend had some trouble being mature about this, since it was a man.
-It's in Denver, which is an hour away. And the class ends at 9:30. So I get to be in an unfamiliar city doing something new and then leaving after dark. Yikes
-Obviously, there are going to be a lot of tenured adult artists there. My stuff is going to PALE in comparison to what they do I'm sure.
-The registration seems kind of complicated

So yea. But hopefully I can do this a couple times a week, plus my own amateur sessions, and then go to pearl every once and awhile and things will get better.

I am supposed to play around with the subject. From what I understand, I think I am supposed to screw making it look as realistic as possible. While thats something really cool to do (you know, perfectly render a subject) I think thats not what calarts is looking for.
I was browsing through the acceptance portfolios from this year though...and I really don't get it. Some are amazing and you're like "well of course they got in!" and others are like "how...? how did this person get accepted based off this?" So maybe I have a chance?

I need to practice hands and faces more. Faces especially. I really suck at them. They look for that stuff. They are also key in expression, which is important in animation.

Welcome

I decided I needed a place to blog and post art solely about, well, my art. I didn't want to interefere with personal blogs or facebook or anything like that, so here I am. I don't expect anyone to visit. This is just for me and my goals.
I am 17 and applying to college in the upcoming fall. I really want to pursue animation. Why? Well, there are a lot of different reasons. And no, it's not because I went and saw The Lion King when I was 5 and decided thats what I wanted to do. When I saw the lion king, I wanted to be a lion, not an animator.
I guess thats sort of the reason though. I want to be involved and deeply connected with my work. I can't run around pretending to be those animals anymore, but I can inspire others to do so. And I can still create stories about their adventures and so on. I guess I am just very dedicated to storytelling overall, as well as creating something people will remember for the rest of their lives. Maybe I'm not curing cancer, but I at least want to impact people somehow.
So thats it, I suppose. I can't pretend to be things, but animation is the closest I can get. And I like hard work, you know? Animation is probably one of the most demanding art careers you can pursue. So obviously it's right for me. :)

I particularly want to go to calarts. Also known as one of the best animation schools. Ever. But it's really hard to get in. Duh. So I guess this blog will be all about my portfolio, my work, applying, and hopefully about my experience once I get in.
So it's sort of like one of those weight loss blogs. Where they set a goal and a date and then they write about it and somehow that helps. Maybe it'll work for me. I just need a place to bitch about my artistic problems I think. So here I am.
I have a lot to say, but it's kind of late and I have a filling in the morning, although I'm sure I'll think of it later. I'm kind of like a broken record these days.
