Nine Nine Nine!

Today is that special day.
And here is what I made for it:

2min gestures. This model was the bomb. The first older woman I've seen at this studio, hair that covers all the hard parts of her face, and great dynamic poses.

2 min gesture plus a 5 min pose...the gesture has really weird proportions, but I find it oddly appealing.
10 min pose...head too small. rawr!
10 min pose
15 min pose...head too small again although I swear when I started and measured it it was the right size
15 min pose....I played with some composition. The hands are weird and the foot is too large because I was trying to avoid making it too small like I usually do. >_< doh
It was here I remembered for the first time in a million years I can turn my pencil on its side and shade instead.

20 min pose

The end. Yay.
The people on AB keep telling me to work on my anatomy. Fucking anatomy.
I feel like I know it and all, its just a matter of applying it.
And what can I say? I'm not a big realism fan in the first place. I like crazy looking people. Thats half the reason I love animation in the first place.

To work on:
Hands
Faces
Arms
Shading?
Oh man I am so excited to see Nine! I am having trouble finding someone to come with me...no one cares about it nearly as much as I do.

Last week

A bit behind on uploading stuff...work has me working tons more hours now that I've requested less. WTF target.

I like this purple one.
I am not so sure about this one....the legs seem off...Too short, too thick
Going for an impressionistic thing.

I played around with style for the last 5 minutes
Caroline told me to make it go off the page and just focus on one part...so I did. I don't know how I feel about it

huh? what? *yawn* I'm sorry, I didn't hear you, what?

Tonight was a good night for art. I'm posting nearly everything. I liked pretty much everything I made.

The models name was Liza, and damn was she good! Another boring, skinny, brunette and yet she whips out poses like no other! Also, her hair was so wild.

2 min gestures
More 2 min gestures....I am in love with the one on the far right.

2 min gesture....the first time a model has ever really sat for a gesture I think

aaaand more...the reason these are split up is because there was a really horrible one in the middle that is just shameful...

And one more

Some 5 min poses

And some 10 min poses....I could not believe the one on the bottom! It turned out kind of horrible, because the arms are all funky, but she held that for 10 minutes. Damn!

Another 10 min...this came out kind of anime-ish. Probably because of the eyes, posture I exaggerated, and also because I realized I was being wayyy too outliney

I whipped out some pastels, for the first time in like a million years. I like these colors together :)

The use of the chalk wasn't great here, but otherwise I like it

A re-try of my failed one last saturday....all I can think of is "nananananannanana BATMAAAN!"

Ok, for the last pose I almost left because a. I am reeeeally tired and need to get to bed b. she flopped down in the MOST FORESHORTENED THING EVER. Sigh. But I stayed anyway, and you know what? I kind of really love it.

My mothers friend who was an art teacher for awhile and actually has an art degree in something or another was here when I got back. She told me she had looked at some of my stuff (which I have posted all over my walls so I can look at it and think about it all the time) and I was like "BEFORE YOU SAY ANYTHING I AM MUCH BETTER NOW!" Because everything on my wall is from Jan-May and absolutely horrendous. So I showed her some of the stuff I've done in the past few weeks and she was quite impressed, but she said I should try to focus on larger, more specific parts rather than putting the whole body on one page. I'm not sure if I should follow this advice or not....I dunno what calarts likes >_<
Anyway, school is killing me and its only been a week. X.X I am dead tired and more stressed out than I was last year! I didn't think that was possible. I need to go to bed now otherwise I'll be a zombie for english tomorrow and that would be bad since I am most afraid for that class.

Saturdays

I have found that the saturday session has a very different crowd...mostly old men. I feel very young and very female going there.
Anyway, these are some gestures from yesterday. Above, I really like the one in the middle. Below, I like the one on the left.
I really need to work on gestures. Hopefully I can ask for more with breakthrough arts' classes.

I like the blue and yellow one a lot. Probably just because I like the color scheme.

More pretty colors. From now on I need to make my heads purposely large, so they'll actually turn out the right size.
I really really liked this one until I realized the head was too small. Goddammit. I hate it when some stupid anatomy or proportion problem ruins something that otherwise was really cool. I'll try this again though, because I dig the feel. Reminds me of comic books.
This model was pretty good. She even brought her dog! :D But shes going away again.

I dunno...I wish some of the longer poses were standing poses. Every model wants to sit for them. I know its hard to be a model but ugh, it just gets so repetitive.

Last night I had a whole handful of people to my house. It was pretty fun. Not the best party ever, but I officially kicked off the year with the first party. Cool me.
Also, my friends have an amazing knack for obtaining loads and loads of alcohol. I don't know how they do it, but its delicious.
I shared an oversized chair for the night with this guy...thats the first time I've done that since Cameron. It's kind of nice sleeping next to people though, I gotta say. It's comforting. Except when they steal your blanket.
I'm going to go take a nap though, and then begin studying as well as my music video for tech. Not sure how I'm going to pull it off on my own, but I'll figure it out.
Yup thats pretty much it for now. I'm a bad kid. It's about darn time.

And Thus the Torture Begins

My life just got 23894578567698 times busier.
School has begun, which has is somewhat bittersweet, especially being a senior, but I cannot stop time so eh, I just have to live with it.
There are a lot of things to tackle, particularly in this semester, that may or may not inhibit my art production. I am hoping they won't, or at least I won't let them, since it is crucial that I work on it as much as possible. I tried to stress to all my teachers in the ritual "tell me about yourself!" assignments that I. LIKE. ANIMATION.
Theres bio, with several IAs to do and well, I just suck at science so I have to study extra hard. There is math where the teacher doesn't know how to teach so that'll be fun. Math is also notorious for busywork. Two IAs in that class as well. TOK which will present an IA and a large essay to write. Fortunately he's changed it a bit so we don't have so many random journal assignments. Tech has a lot of newbies, and they'll be hard to train since Jason is leaving in February because his wife is having a baby. We even recruited a mentally retarded kid. We didn't know this at the time, and I don't want to be discriminatory, but having a retarded kid work with power tools, heavy objects, and great heights just iiiisnt the best idea, especially in high pressure situations. I also want to knock out my light show and music video by the end of september this year so I am not FREAKING OUT in may like I was last year. English scares the fuck out of me. The teacher is nice but infamous for being really tough with grades and my writing is ok, but my speaking needs a little work, and that's what she is focusing on. She snapped at us for not having the book we are going to read yet. I read the summer assignment. Because of the word "summer." Nothing in the assignment said anything about obtaining Hamlet. We have our 2 world lit papers left as well as the commentary. Anyway, there is psych as well which is just going to be one big party because everyone is awesome in that class, and we already spent a day doing nothing. It will, unfortunately, include 3 IA papers and an experiment. Finally there is IB ART!!! Which I am so THRILLED for. Basically, I get to do whatever I want and everyone in that class is my buddy so its going to be just amazing. I am so psyched for it. <3
Breakthrough arts brought figure drawing back. Its still the same teacher, who leans towards strict traditional drawing, but thats based off the advice he gave me, and, well, I was out to a slow start in that class. It took me almost 10 weeks to really get gesture down as an idea. I just didn't understand it. So I am excited to go back and blow them away with my improvement over the summer. I really hope we get a different model though. The last one was fine, but it got boring drawing the same woman every week. I mean, thats not very helpful in terms of a universal understanding of the body. Its every monday. I don't know how gracious target will be with my work schedule, but hopefully very much so since I've only requested a couple hours a week. The best part about this class? IT'S FREE!!!! I love grants and rich-hippie-boulder-community-lovers :D
I am also devoting myself to being, like, a social person and all that. Apparently I'm throwing a party this weekend? I dunno, it's weird, whatever.
Tomorrow is saturday and I go to do more drawing! I also want to start my IW for art ASAP (oh the acronyms of IB!) I may post some stuff from there as well. Some kids make theirs really intensely beautiful

School Tomorrow *sob*

Hello all! Went to drawing today! This was the last pose of the evening and I think it was my favorite...

School begins tomorrow. Dear god why?? Oh well, at least I'll be a senior.
Whatcher lookin at here is some new stuff from tonight. Above are some 2 min gestures...like I said my gestures always suck because I haven't warmed up yet.
Below is another 2 min gesture

5 min. This model wasn't my favorite, a lot of her poses were very similar
More 5 minute poses. I would dig the pink one if her calf weren't gimp
10 min pose. I kinda like it

15 mins with super hard foreshortening. I do my best.
25 minutes...I ran out of time, which is a first. The legs are very rushed.
I added the last at the top, because the one I originally uploaded was horrible quality.

I feel like I am definitely improving, even if I still use a hairy line. It's a hard habit to kick, what can I say? Can't I just make that my trademark? D:
But the way I figure it, calarts is going to get like a zillion portfolios and they will all have figure drawings in them, so I am really focusing on how I can make mine stand out. Everyone time I try to exagerrate something I think "whoa this is going to look too crazy!" and then it looks totally normal. I guess I should push boundaries huh?

Beach Stuff

I totally forgot I did a little bit of drawing while at the beach. Nothing amazing, just some doodles and such.

At the airport.

Hands. Because I was bored.
My cousins totally took the "I hope I get in" comment in the wrong way. I was talking about college. Sheesh >_<

My family playing this weird card game called euker or eucher or something. My dad has the bat and beard, my uncle is next to him with the glasses, my brother in front of him (with my would be grandma on the right but it didn't fit) and my cousin in the front (way too small...guess who I drew first?) My grandpa and aunt are on the left.
At the beach. People doing stuff and my dad and cousin playing soccer.

Random doodles.

I drew this for my uncle, who was complaining that I hadn't drawn him yet. :)
